LOCAL ATTRACTIONS:

The Common Ground Center itself has about all you could want for a summer weekend get-away!  On-site facilities include miles of hiking trails, a large pond for swimming or canoeing or cooling off, tennis courts (including tennis balls and racquets), a basketball court, a kickball field, an indoor game room and library, hammocks for lounging, a fire pit, a small playground structure for kiddies, and acres and acres of woods, wetlands, and fields for all!  All you really need to have a good time is a good book and a bathing suit.

If you feel the need to get out and about, the Common Ground Center is very centrally situated for all sorts of fun Vermont Summer activities!  Go for a hike up to the Long Trail, visit local wineries or breweries, take a dip in the falls, or hit up the big city of Burlington.  Here are a few of our favorite options:

Hikes:

Mount Abe: Lincoln, VT
6.5 miles round trip, 2,880 ft elevation gain
20 minute drive from CGC
Directions from CGC: Head to route 116, turn right onto 116 South.  After 6.2 miles turn left onto Lincoln Rd.  Lincoln Rd. turns into W. River Rd. In the town of Lincoln turn left onto Quaker St, then right onto Elder Hill Rd to the trailhead.

Camel’s Hump: Huntington, VT
5.1 miles round-trip, 2457 ft. elevation gain
30 minute drive from CGC
Directions from CGC: Head to route 116, turn left onto 116 North.  After 5.4 miles take a right onto Hollow Rd, which turns into Hinesburg Hollow Rd.  After 5 miles turn right onto Main Rd, then left onto Camel’s Hump Rd in the town of Huntington.  Trailhead is 3.4 miles ahead on Camel’s Hump Rd.

Snake Mountain: Addison VT
4.1 miles round trip, 975 ft. elevation gain
35 minute drive from CGC
Directions from CGC: Head to route 116, turn left onto 116 South.  Follow 116 through the town of Bristol and continue straight onto 17 West.  Stay on 17 and pass through New Haven, route 7, and Otter Creek.  After Otter Creek look for Mountain Rd. on the left, turn left onto Mountain Rd.  After 1.7 miles the parking lot will be on the right, trailhead just past the parking lot on the left.


Swimming:

Bartlett Falls (AKA Bristol Falls)
10 minute drive from CGC
Directions from CGC: Head out to route 116, turn right onto 116 south.  Drive 6.2 miles to Lincoln Rd, take a left onto Lincoln Rd.  Falls will be on the right.
